United Airlines has introduced direct flights from Newark Liberty International Airport to Marrakech Menara Airport, marking the first direct US airline service to the Moroccan city.
This route will operate three times a week using a Boeing 767-300ER and complements United’s expansion in Africa. United now serves five African cities—Accra, Lagos, Johannesburg, Cape Town, and now Marrakech.
Network growth
Flight UA828 departs Newark at 21:45, arriving in Marrakech at 11:20 local time, while the return flight UA627 leaves Marrakech at 13:20, reaching New York at 16:25. The new service aligns with United’s broader network growth, which includes expanded flights from Washington-Dulles to Accra and Lagos and new routes to Dakar, Senegal, in 2025. United’s cargo division will also benefit from the new Marrakech route, enhancing logistics efficiency for Moroccan exports.
This expansion complements partnerships with Star Alliance members like Egyptair, Ethiopian Airlines, and South African Airways, allowing United to tap into the growing demand for US-Africa travel. Royal Air Maroc also flies to the US, with routes from Casablanca to New York, Washington, and Miami, and plans to expand ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Additionally, the North American-Morocco connection sees contributions from Air Canada and Air Transat, especially with demand growing between Canada and sub-Saharan Africa.
