The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has introduced a new bonded warehouse at the Malaba One Stop Border Post (OSBP) to improve cargo handling and enhance trade efficiency.

Constructed by Tan Investments, the facility has the capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 trucks, representing a significant step forward in Uganda’s logistics sector. This new development aims to streamline import and export processes, making trade more efficient and reinforcing Uganda’s position as a key player in regional commerce.

Ease in congestion

Speaking at the launch event, Catherine Donovan Kyokunda, URA’s Commissioner of Legal Services and Board Affairs, highlighted the warehouse’s potential to enhance trade and investment opportunities. The facility is expected to serve as a vital clearing point for goods bound for Northern and Eastern Uganda, helping to reduce congestion at Kampala’s ports. This inland clearance depot (ICD) will provide traders with a faster and more cost-effective option for clearing cargo, strengthening Uganda’s supply chain and improving overall trade competitiveness in East Africa.

As a landlocked country, Uganda depends on effective trade corridors and customs systems to facilitate smooth transit of goods. The establishment of this warehouse at the Malaba OSBP will support faster cargo processing, reduce delays, and enhance Uganda’s trade links with neighboring countries. This strategic investment underscores Uganda’s commitment to improving its logistics infrastructure and becoming a more attractive destination for trade and investment in the region.
