Takealot, South Africa’s leading online retailer opened a state-of-the-art distribution center (DC) in Durban at The Brickworks Industrial Park. The facility underscores the company’s commitment to enhancing service delivery across KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

Frederik Zietsman, Takealot Group CEO, emphasized the center’s dual role in boosting delivery efficiency and contributing to the local economy. “This is an investment in the local economy of KwaZulu-Natal, enhancing our delivery network and creating valuable employment opportunities for the area. These efforts align with our commitment to fostering economic growth across South Africa,” said Zietsman.

Features

Spanning an impressive 43,000m², the Durban DC is equipped to handle up to 45,000 units per day. This significant operational upgrade will enable Takealot to process orders more efficiently, meeting the growing demand of KZN shoppers and ensuring faster delivery times.

The facility is expected to drive job creation in the region, with employment opportunities across warehouse operations, logistics, and partnerships with local SMEs and delivery services. This initiative also supports local communities, fostering economic growth and development.

Durban, recognized as a key industrial and economic hub, offers unmatched access to South Africa’s trade and logistics networks. Its infrastructure connects regional markets to global supply chains, making it an ideal location for the new DC. Zietsman highlighted that the strategic positioning allows Takealot to better serve KZN customers and expand its reach beyond the province.

The new Durban DC marks a milestone for Takealot as it continues to invest in infrastructure that enhances service delivery while contributing to South Africa’s broader economic and social development.
