Boeing has delivered the first of four 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft to TAAG Angola Airlines, marking the debut of the airline’s new livery. This delivery aligns with TAAG’s fleet modernization strategy, enhancing its long-haul capabilities and offering passengers a world-class experience.

The 787-9 Dreamliner is recognized for its advanced technologies, fuel efficiency, and exceptional passenger comfort, reducing fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by up to 25% compared to the aircraft it replaces.

Sustainability and environmental responsibility

The inaugural 787-9, leased from AerCap, arrived in Luanda just before Angola’s Liberation Day on February 4, nearly 50 years after TAAG received its first Boeing 737-200. Currently, TAAG operates a fleet that includes Boeing 777-300ERs, 777-200ERs, and Next-Generation 737s, connecting Angola to 12 destinations across Africa, Europe, South America, and China. The introduction of the 787-9 will enable the airline to expand its long-haul network, with plans to launch new routes to Europe and explore opportunities in Asia and North America.

In conjunction with this delivery, TAAG is collaborating with Boeing to purchase CO₂ emissions reductions associated with blended Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) through a process called book-and-claim. This initiative reflects a commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook projects that Africa will need 1,170 new airplanes over the next two decades. Boeing aircraft have been integral to Africa’s commercial fleet for over 75 years, with more than 60 airlines operating approximately 500 Boeing airplanes across the continent, representing nearly 70% of the market. As of February 3, 2025, Boeing Co. (BA) is trading at $177.38, with a slight increase of 0.00487% from the previous close.
