The Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced an enhancement to its IAS India-Africa Service (IAS), aimed at strengthening trade routes between West and South Africa, the Gulf, and India. This adjustment introduces a new eastbound call in Cape Town, replacing the previous call in Coega, thereby improving export opportunities for businesses in the Cape region.

This strategic update provides Cape Town exporters, particularly fruit exporters utilizing reefer cargo, with direct access to markets in Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi, the Gulf, and the IPAK region. The improved connection is expected to facilitate expanded trading opportunities and enhanced service reliability for the region’s perishable goods.

The enhanced service rotation began with the MSC Cancun (voyage number IW452R), which made its Cape Town call on January 11. The new rotation now includes the following ports: Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi, Sohar, Mundra, Nhava Sheva, Colombo, Lome, Cotonou, Abidjan, Tema, Cape Town. The service then returns to Jebel Ali, completing the loop. This improvement highlights MSC’s commitment to enhancing global connectivity and supporting regional trade needs.
