The Lagos Food Bank has launched a new warehouse facility in Nigeria. This is a significant step forward in the battle against hunger and food insecurity in the country.

The Founder and Executive Director of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, Mr. Michael Sunbola, said the warehouse represented growth, impact, and unflagging commitment to fighting hunger and malnutrition in Nigeria.

The facility located located in the Ikeja area of the state features a large storage capacity of over 500 pallets to allow the organization to increase its reach, supporting the distribution of food to millions in need, particularly in vulnerable communities.

Public-private partnerships

Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s recognition of the initiative underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing food security challenges. “We are proud to associate with your organisation and deeply appreciate the impactful work you are doing. The warehouse we are launching today marks a significant milestone. It will not only enable you to reach more people in need but also solidify your organisation’s position as a leading non-profit dedicated solely to serving humanity.”

“That is why we highly value and actively seek collaboration with private organisations, civil society groups, and compassionate individuals. Initiatives like the Lagos Food Bank Initiative are vital partners in this journey, and we are grateful for their dedication and support,” he added.

“Our work does not stop here, and we must continue to push forward with innovation, collaboration, and commitment. The Lagos Food Bank Initiative has been at the forefront of alleviating hunger in Lagos for years, serving approximately three million households across 170 communities in Nigeria. With the new warehouse, the organisation can now scale its operations to distribute nutritious meals to more vulnerable communities,” said Mr. Michael Sunbola.
