The Mtwapa-Kwa Kadzengo-Kilifi road project, linking Kenya and Tanzania was enveiled by Kenya’s President William Ruto.
The project is part of US $ 61. 4million multinational Malindi-Lunga Lunga/Horohoro-Tanga-Bagamoyo East African coastal road corridor. The corridor is being built through a grant from the African Development Bank (AfDB) in partnership with African Development Fund, EU-African Infrastructure Trust Fund Grant and the Kenyan government.
Mtwapa-Kwa Kadzengo-Kilifi road project
The Mtwapa-Kwa Kadzengo-Kilifi road project which is approximately 40.4km starts at the proposed new Mtwapa Bridge in Mtwapa town. The road will promote regional integration by improving connectivity between Kenya, Tanzania and Somalia. It will also improve traffic flow, traffic safety and level of service through the dualing and expansion of the existing road, as well as enhance Mtwapa’s growing reputation as a 24 hour trade hub in East and Central Africa.
The County Government will allocate land for the construction of a modern Market in Mtwapa, now that the President has committed Ksh 200million through the relevant Ministries towards the Project. The road will be completed within 36 months.
“This is an important road linking Kenya and Tanzania. It will boost trade and economies between the two countries. It will connect the East African Community in terms of integration, jobs, businesses and eradicate poverty,” said President Ruto.
AfDB representative Hussein Iman said the road is a crucial project connecting Kenya and Tanzania and will facilitate trade, accessibility and cross border movement.
“This is a significant project that will boost connectivity,” she said.
