Kenya Airways (KQ) has strengthened its fleet by acquiring a Boeing 737-800 with a seating capacity of 170, bringing its total number of aircraft to 35. This addition aligns with the airline’s fleet expansion strategy, reinforcing its commitment to increasing capacity, improving efficiency, and catering to the rising demand for air travel across its network.

The aircraft, obtained from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), will immediately boost KQ’s seat availability, offering passengers greater flexibility and more travel choices. Allan Kilavuka, Kenya Airways Group Managing Director & CEO, emphasized that this acquisition reflects the airline’s proactive efforts to secure resources that align with its long-term growth strategy and turnaround plan, Project Kifaru 2.

Improving connectivity

“The introduction of this Boeing 737-800 is a significant milestone in our fleet expansion. It not only increases our seating capacity but also demonstrates our ability to adapt and grow despite the ongoing challenges in the aviation industry, particularly regarding aircraft availability,” Kilavuka stated.

This move is part of KQ’s broader strategy to enhance its network, improve connectivity, and offer top-tier service to travelers. The airline is actively seeking further fleet expansion through strategic partnerships with major aircraft manufacturers and leasing companies.

“We remain dedicated to developing a strong and modern fleet that supports our growth ambitions. Acquiring this aircraft from DAE marks an important step in our long-term collaboration, reinforcing our partnership and signaling our reliability within the aviation sector. We welcome more partners to join us as we expand operations and solidify our standing in the global market,” Kilavuka added.

Kenya Airways’ strategic approach to fleet expansion, combined with its ability to secure critical resources, highlights the airline’s resilience and dedication to sustainable growth. The airline continues to attract partnerships with global aviation lessors, leveraging its strong market position as one of Africa’s leading carriers.
