The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya has been nominated for the African Cargo Airport of the Year award.
Kenya Airports Authority confirmed the report and said JKIA will contest for the prize alongside Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, Cairo International Airport and O.R. Tambo International Airport.
“Exciting news ! We are thrilled to announce that JKIA has been nominated for the African Cargo Airport of the Year award in this year’s Stat Media News intl Awards,” KAA said.
JKIA
JKIA is the flagship airport of The KAA. The airport boasts of over 40 passenger airlines and 25 cargo airlines. JKIA has proven to be the Cargo hub of Africa due to the following reasons:

- Kenya Airfreight Handling Limited – KAHL
The export and import area measures 85,720 sq ft
- The main cold room measures 5,200 sq ft and the export cold room measures 262 sq ft
- The cold room capacity is 100,000 tonnes and the temperatures are -18° and 2°C.
- The fresh produce area measures 33,133 sq ft
- KAHL occupies 9,352 sq ft of its office space and the remaining space within KAHL is
occupied by different operators.
- Also available at KAHL is a strong room, banking facility, business centre and 642 motor vehicle parking slots and communication facilities through intercom and telephone extensions.
- Transglobal Cargo Centre
