JHUB Africa, ZScaler, and Westcon-Comstor have announced a partnership to address the widening technological divide by fostering a robust industry-academia ecosystem capable of equipping students with cutting-edge skills and aligning educational programs with rapidly evolving industry needs.
The collaborative initiative is a step forward in positioning Kenya as a leader in the global tech space, particularly in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI). Cybersecurity is positioned as a critical pillar for Kenya’s technological development, ensuring digital trust and resilience in an increasingly interconnected world. AI is seen as a transformative tool for optimizing security protocols, data management, and innovation, with an emphasis on human-AI collaboration.
Global tech space
JHUB Africa, based at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), aims to co-develop a forward-looking curriculum with its partners. This curriculum will prepare students not only for current job markets but also for emerging opportunities in cybersecurity and AI.
The initiative aspires to create a global roadmap for cybersecurity education and expertise, making JKUAT a hub of excellence. By cultivating homegrown talent, it positions Kenya to influence global tech trends while addressing local challenges.
Students will benefit from practical programs, mentorship, and exposure to real-world projects, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and industry demands. Engagement with leaders like Liat Shentser of ZScaler and Collins Emadau of Westcon-Comstor highlights the importance of proactive participation in these opportunities.
Dr. Lawrence Nderu, founder of JHUB Africa, emphasized the importance of agility in adapting to industry changes, positioning this initiative as an avenue to fast-track Kenya’s entry into the global tech arena. Ms. Shentser’s emphasis on AI’s collaborative potential with human expertise reassures stakeholders about AI’s role in future job markets.
