The Hyderabad Airport Metro project has kicked off. A foundation stone was laid off to mark the start of works. The project involves construction of a 31-kilometer corridor that will start from the Mindspace junction right next to the Raidurg metro station.

Thereafter, the airport metro corridor will pass through a biodiversity junction along Khajaguda road. Once it reaches Nanakramhuda junction from Khajaguda road, it will then proceed down to the Outer Ring Road (ORR), where it has a dedicated Metro Rail Right of Way (RoW), up until Shamshabad.

27.5 kilometers out of the total 31 kilometers will be elevated metro. 2.5 kilometers within the airport area run underground while about 1 kilometer of the stretch, will be at road or rather grade level. The project boasts a total of eight to ten proposed, stations.

The airport metro will run at a maximum speed of well up to 120 kilometers per hour. Thus, the entire 31-kilometer stretch would take 26 minutes to cover. Additionally, the facility will be equipped with closed circuits. As a result, the platform gates will only open upon the arrival of the train.

The Hyderabad Airport Metro project will cost the state government a total of Rs 6,250 crore. Upon completion, it will serve as a connection from the Raidurg Metro Station to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

The project will be a joint venture is a special-purpose vehicle comprising the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), Telangana State Industrial and Infrastructure Cooperation (TSIIC), and the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited 9HMRL).

The groundbreaking ceremony had the Chief Minister, K. Chandrashekar Rao in attendance. Right after laying the foundation stone, the chief minister noted that the Metro is one of the most efficient ways towards reducing traffic congestion.
