Ethiopian Cargo, the freight division of Ethiopian Airlines, has bolstered its fleet with the addition of a new Boeing 777 Freighter, registered as ET-BAB. This marks a significant milestone in the airline’s growth as it enhances its global air freight operations.

The freighter’s inaugural flight, carrying humanitarian aid, highlights Ethiopian Cargo’s commitment to both expanding its services and supporting corporate social responsibility initiatives. The aircraft departed Boeing’s Everett factory in Washington, USA,  arrived at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, the airline’s hub.

Strengthening cargo network

Ethiopian Airlines celebrated the new addition, emphasizing the freighter’s role in strengthening the company’s extensive cargo network.  “Ethiopian Cargo is proud to expand its capacity and enhance its global operations with the addition of a new Boeing 777 Freighter Aircraft, ET-BA.”

The aircraft commenced operational service on 24 January, departing Addis Ababa for Brussels before continuing to Dubai. Ethiopian Airlines, known for its expansive network, operates cargo services to over 70 destinations and passenger services to more than 140 destinations globally, spanning Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The Boeing 777F is a pivotal asset for Ethiopian Cargo, enabling increased efficiency, reliability, and the capacity to meet the growing demand for air freight services worldwide.

Ethiopian Airlines, formerly Ethiopian Air Lines (EAL), is the flag carrier of Ethiopia, and is wholly owned by the country’s government. EAL was founded on 21 December 1945 and commenced operations on 8 April 1946, expanding to international flights in 1951. The firm became a share company in 1965 and changed its name from Ethiopian Air Lines to Ethiopian Airlines.
