Emirates SkyCargo has entered into a strategic partnership with Astral Aviation, a key player in Africa’s air cargo sector, to enhance trade between the continent and global markets. This collaboration aims to strengthen logistical connectivity, offering businesses in Africa expanded access to international trade routes.

Astral Aviation operates across 50 destinations within Africa, utilizing both scheduled and charter services. By partnering with Emirates SkyCargo— which serves over 145 destinations globally through a fleet of dedicated freighters and passenger aircraft— the agreement reinforces Africa’s growing influence in global commerce. Both companies specialize in transporting sensitive goods such as perishable produce and pharmaceuticals, which are vital for the region’s trade.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was formalized during Air Cargo Africa, with Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, and Sanjeev Gadhia, CEO of Astral Aviation, signing the agreement. The partnership will explore new cargo interline options and block space agreements to improve trade flows and logistical efficiency.

Badr Abbas highlighted Africa’s rapid economic growth and strong trade potential, emphasizing Emirates’ commitment to supporting businesses in reaching international markets efficiently. Sanjeev Gadhia described the partnership as a milestone in their long-standing collaboration, aiming to drive innovation and strengthen air cargo connectivity.

This agreement coincides with the recent Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Kenya, which is designed to boost trade in key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure, financial services, and renewable energy.
