Egypt and Croatia have sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) strengthen cooperation in maritime transport, logistics, infrastructure development, and technology exchange.
The agreement inked between Alexandria Port Authority and Rijeka Port Authority is designed to boost trade between by exploring joint shipping routes, encouraging investments in port projects, and fostering knowledge-sharing in areas such as port management, digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and maritime security.
Economic integration
The collaboration is anticipated to attract investments from both European and African partners, streamline shipping between continents, and contribute to economic integration within regional trade blocs. To ensure smooth execution, a joint committee will be formed to oversee the implementation of the MoU, with technical discussions scheduled to outline priority projects and key areas of cooperation.
Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, emphasized that this agreement marks a major advancement in Egypt-Croatia maritime relations, opening doors to new economic and regional collaborations. The MoU aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which aims to establish the country’s ports as major trade hubs.
Alexandria Port, handling about 60% of Egypt’s imports and exports, serves as a vital gateway to the Mediterranean. Likewise, Rijeka Port plays a critical role as Croatia’s primary Adriatic port, connecting to Central and Eastern European markets. Officials from both port authorities reaffirmed their commitment to translating this partnership into actionable projects, ensuring tangible progress in maritime cooperation between the two nations.
