Africa Global Logistics (AGL), a subsidiary of the MSC Group, has embarked on a CFA240 million project to renovate a cocoa warehouse owned by Cameroon’s Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Handicrafts (CCIMA) in Douala’s Port Zone 3.

This initiative aims to expand the warehouse’s capacity and improve storage conditions for cocoa beans destined for export. The upgrade works will involve raising the foundation to protect against frequent flooding and refurbishing the 9,600-square-meter roof, costing over CFA170 million.

Equipment will be installed to maintain optimal humidity levels for preserving cocoa quality and the electrical system will be upgraded. The floor will also be leveled to facilitate container storage and the overall site layout is set for improvement.

Export efficiency

Once completed in mid-2025, the 6,000-square-meter warehouse will have a storage capacity of 4,000 tons and will be able to handle up to 144,000 tons per cocoa season, tripling its current capacity. This figure significantly contributes to Cameroon’s national cocoa export, which totaled 185,613 tons during the 2023-2024 season, generating CFA359 billion in revenue—12% of the country’s total export revenue for that year.

By ensuring optimal storage conditions and increasing transit capacity, AGL aims to boost Cameroon’s cocoa export efficiency. According to Rochelin Efongfo, Head of Commodities Warehousing at AGL Cameroon, these renovations not only enhance the warehouse’s functionality but also align with broader efforts to support the country’s growing cocoa production, which rose by 1.17% to 266,725 tons in 2023-2024.

This project underscores AGL’s commitment to improving logistics infrastructure in Cameroon, contributing to the sustainable growth of its cocoa export sector.
