Congo is set to have a new port terminal constructed at the Port of Pointe-Noire. This follows a commitment investment of US $447million made by Congo Terminal, a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics (AGL) for the project.
The project, named “Môle Est,” will feature a 750-meter quay with a 17-meter draught, a 26-hectare quayside area, and 16 electric gantries, including 4 ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and 12 rubber-tired gantries (RTGs). Additionally, a major dredging campaign will widen the channel to 300 meters at the bend and 250 meters in other sections to accommodate larger vessels.

This new terminal is a joint venture between the Port Autonome de Pointe-Noire (PAPN) and Congo Terminal, aiming to expand the port’s capacity and operational capabilities. Expected to be operational by 2027, the terminal will boost container handling from 1 million to over 2.3 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) annually. This expansion will accommodate larger ships and meet the increasing demand from shipping lines, positioning Pointe-Noire as a key hub on the global maritime map.
In addition to the economic benefits, the project will create over 900 new jobs, providing a significant social and economic uplift for the region. Congo Terminal’s Managing Director, Anthony Samzu, highlighted the project’s importance in meeting future port user needs and solidifying Pointe-Noire’s role in the international maritime industry.
