Canyon Resources has received approval from the Government of Cameroon for the site of its Inland Rail Facility (IRF), a key step in advancing the Minim Martap Bauxite Project toward production.
The IRF will be strategically located near the Makor Railway Station, ensuring seamless integration with existing transport infrastructure. Additionally, the company’s subsidiary, Camalco Cameroon, has secured 105 hectares of land from the Lamido of Ngaoundere for potential expansion of the facility and related infrastructure.
This approval follows an underwriting agreement with Eagle Eye Asset Holdings (EEA) for the procurement of rolling stock. Canyon Resources is actively working on logistical and infrastructure solutions as part of its definitive feasibility study (DFS) to reduce risks and streamline the transition to production.
Loading station
Once operational, the IRF will function as a loading station for bauxite ore transported by road from Minim Martap. The ore will then be moved via the main railway line to the port using Canyon’s rolling stock.
CEO Jean Sebastien Boutet highlighted the rapid progress made in the past six months, crediting support from strategic partners and the government. He emphasized the project’s significance for Cameroon’s economy and the global bauxite market.
As part of a leadership transition, Peter Secker will take over as CEO from July 1, 2025. Secker expressed confidence in the project’s strategic value, particularly as global bauxite demand rises amid supply concerns. In a significant milestone, Canyon Resources also signed a mining convention for the Minim Martap Bauxite Project in July 2024.
