Algeria has launched the construction of the Tiaret-Tissemsilt railway project in the municipality of Tissemsilt. This project is a segment of a broader 185 km rail network linking Relizane, Tiaret, and Tissemsilt, designed to bolster Algeria’s transportation infrastructure. The railway is slated for completion within 20 months and will accommodate passenger and freight trains traveling at speeds of up to 160 km/h.

This development aligns with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision to enhance national connectivity, promote economic opportunities, and strengthen integration between Algeria’s northern and southern regions. Local authorities emphasized strict adherence to project timelines and efficient resource allocation during the launch ceremony.

Impact of project

Key features and impacts of the project include; incorporation of advanced engineering structures to maximize capacity and operational efficiency, expected to drive growth in public works, industry, and other sectors, stimulating socio-economic development in the region, facilitates movement of goods and people, boosting trade and accessibility and strengthening Algeria’s unity through improved inter-regional links.

The Tiaret-Tissemsilt railway line is poised to play a pivotal role in Algeria’s national growth strategy, fostering development in underconnected wilayas and supporting industrial expansion. Upon completion, it promises to unlock significant economic and social benefits for the region and the country.

With over 5,000 kilometres of rail already in operation, Algeria is poised to extend its network with new lines, such as the Kenchela-Constantine connection, to improve travel times, bridge community gaps, and drive economic development.
