Google and Speedinvest have announced their support to Leta’s AI-powered platform which aims to address logistics challenges.
African businesses face some of the highest logistics costs in the world, paying up to four times the global average to transport goods. According to the African Development Bank (AfDB), logistics expenses account for nearly 75% of product costs on the continent, significantly increasing the prices of essential goods such as food and medicine. Many companies still rely on manual logistics processes, which lead to inefficiencies, delays, and higher operating costs.
Real-time tracking
The Nairobi-based logistics SaaS provider’s platform streamlines delivery by optimizing routes, tracking shipments in real-time, automating dispatch planning, and providing businesses with valuable shipping insights. By integrating with existing business systems like ERP, POS, and OMS, Leta enhances operational efficiency and reduces costs for companies. The startup recently secured $5 million in seed funding to expand its services across Africa, following a $3 million pre-seed round in 2022 that helped deepen its presence in Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Leta’s AI-driven platform improves delivery efficiency by selecting the most suitable vehicle for each order and determining the best loading method, whether first-in, first-out (FIFO) or last-in, first-out (LIFO). The system also adjusts delivery routes in real-time based on road conditions, traffic, and other disruptions. This data-driven approach helps businesses reduce the number of vehicles required for distribution, cutting down on fuel costs and emissions. For example, a company with 70 trucks could save up to $30,000 monthly using Leta’s optimization tools.
By offering financial products like fuel cards, asset financing, and supply chain financing, Leta aims to extend its value beyond logistics. Its success reflects the growing demand for efficient and cost-effective logistics solutions in Africa, where improving supply chain management is critical for economic growth. Leta is well-positioned to scale its operations and enhance the logistics landscape across Africa and the Middle East.
