Amazon is testing a new feature in its shopping app that expands search results to include products it doesn’t directly sell. This means that when users search for an item, they may see results for products that are not available in Amazon’s own inventory.
Features
If a shopper taps the “see more” option on these items, they will be shown additional products from that brand. Clicking on one of those products will take them to the brand’s own website, where they can complete their purchase. For brands using Amazon’s “Buy with Prime” service, customers will still be able to access their Prime benefits when purchasing directly from the external site.
Rajiv Mehta, Amazon’s vice president of search and conversational shopping, stated that this test aims to improve the shopping experience by giving customers more choices and expanding the selection available through Amazon’s platform.
Currently, this feature is only available to a limited number of U.S. customers using the Amazon Shopping app on iOS and Android. The company plans to gradually expand access based on feedback from the beta test.
“We’re testing bringing more selection and brands into our search results to help customers find even more of what they want and further improve our shopping experience for customers,” said Rajiv Mehta, Amazon’s vice president of search and conversational shopping.
