The government of Mauritania led by Minister of Digital Transformation and Administrative Modernization, Ahmed Salem Ould Bedde has unveiled the Digital-Y project that is set to modernize public infrastructure and fostering digital inclusion.

The project according to Ahmed Salem Ould Bedde, underscores the Mauritanian government’s commitment to integrating digital tools into public administration to modernize services, strengthen administrative transparency, and drive economic and social development. He emphasized the importance of making these services accessible to all, particularly to reduce regional disparities and foster true digital inclusion. The project also aligns with international standards and embracing digital transformation as a vehicle for sustainable growth.

Digital-Y Project

Digital-Y Project will reduce regional disparities by ensuring equitable access to digital resources and services. It will also enhance transparency and accountability in public administration through digital solutions.

Supported with €4 million in partnership with German cooperation, the project is part of Mauritania’s broader national digital transformation strategy. There will be emphasis on developing the digital skills of both citizens and institutions to ensure widespread adoption and sustainable impact. In addition a standardized frameworks will be set up for public service digitization to ensure consistency and reliability.

The project aims to further elevate Mauritania’s EGDI ranking. The country’s significant progress is evident, climbing from 172nd in 2022 to 165th in 2024, with a score increase from 0.3221 to 0.3491. By reducing the digital divide, the project seeks to empower marginalized regions, thereby promoting equity and inclusion.
