AerCap Holdings has announced a sale and leaseback agreement with TAAG Angola Airlines for one new Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Scheduled for delivery in February 2025, this transaction marks the introduction of the fuel-efficient 787-9 to TAAG’s fleet as part of its modernization program.

Aengus Kelly, CEO of AerCap, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “We are pleased to welcome TAAG Angola Airlines as a new customer to AerCap and particularly pleased to be the first lessor to introduce the 787 to the airline. The 787 will enable TAAG to expand their network across Africa, Europe, and Asia while supporting their goals for fuel efficiency and customer satisfaction.”

Fleet modernization

Nelson de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG, highlighted the significance of the agreement: “This partnership with AerCap is a crucial step in modernizing our fleet. The addition of the Boeing 787-9 aligns with our dedication to efficiency, sustainability, and offering a superior travel experience, while enhancing Angola’s connectivity with key international destinations.”

TAAG Angola Airlines currently serves 12 domestic and 11 international destinations, and this strategic fleet upgrade will support further network expansion and operational cost optimization
